A TEAM of mixed martial artists conquered Crystal Palace on Sunday as they mastered a mighty medal haul at the TYGA World Open Championships.
Master Frank Massar’s squad, which trains at the Somers Town Community Sports Centre in Chalton Street, showcased an array of highly-tuned skills, including kickboxing, weapons and power breaking, where a martial artist breaks one or more objects, often wood, bricks or cinder blocks. Members of the team also displayed their form in the kata, a challenging event where judges mark detailed choreographed patterns of movement.
Master Massar led the medal charge as he won two golds, while Luke Candler won a gold, three silvers and a bronze medal. Sean Andrews and Tutu Akinlosotu scooped silver medals, while Rohan Murray Carrington collected a silver medal and two bronzes.
Harry Breeze Lawrence bagged two bronze medals, and Teddy Field also struck bronze as the team scooped a 15-medal haul.
Master Massar said: “It was a fantastic team effort. I’m overwhelmed with the achievement, every single member of the team won a medal.”
