THERE were cheers and medals galore as scores of primary school children flocked to William Ellis School in Highgate to take part in the Benchball Championships.

Boys and girls from 14 schools formed into teams to show off their skills at the Camden Schools Sports Association (CSSA) showpiece, which is seen as an excellent progression to both netball and basketball.

The event, organised by the CSSA in partnership with Camden Sport and Physical Activity Service, was umpired by pupils from La Sainte Union and Talacre NVQ students.

The championships followed hot on the heels of the Camden Primary Schools Tag Rugby Festival, which was held at Parliament Hill Fields. More than 180 children enjoyed the event, which was won by St Aloysius Junior School in Somers Town.
