MECCA has backed down over a bid to keep its bingo hall in Camden Town open all night.

The club, in Arlington Road, had asked for a licence that would have allowed it to operate 24 hours a day.

But after facing a raft of objections from neighbours, who feared it would attract an unruly and drunken crowd, the club has had a rethink.

Mecca operations manager John Dyson said: “We’re in the process of reviewing our plans to optimise the experience for our loyal customers. We’re working with police and we are listening to local feedback to ensure that our popular Mecca club in Camden remains an appealing place for many customers to enjoy themselves responsibly in a contemporary, entertaining venue.”
