• WHILE I welcome the news that key bus services in Camden (and beyond) are no longer facing the axe, the idea that they’ve been “saved” by Mayor of London Sadiq Khan (inset) is rubbish.

You can carve up what has happened into five stages:

— The Labour mayor plans savage cuts to bus services;

— Predictable massive fuss and backlash;

— Hand-wringing and government-blaming;

— U-turn on his own cuts; and

— Takes credit for “saving” the services he was planning to cut.

If this was all necessitated by the mayor’s dispute with the Conservative government, then a plague on both their houses for treating London’s transport network as a political football.

No doubt most Londoners will see through these games. What a grubby way of making decisions that affect millions of people.
