THERE was a gush of gold for the Camden Swiss Cottage Masters squad at the weekend as they returned home from the Barnet Copthall Open boasting a mighty medal haul.

Competing in the men’s 40-to-44 age group, Chris Hopton was one of three members who won double gold as he powered to victory in the 100m and 400m freestyle.

Team-mate Martin Woodhams was the busiest swimmer at the meet as he competed in six races in the men’s 50-to-54 age category.

Having joined Swiss Cottage from a triathlon background, Woodhams demonstrated his rapidly-increasing speed as he won gold in the 200m breaststroke and the 800m freestyle.

He also scooped silver medals in the 100m breaststroke and the 400m freestyle and a bronze in the 100m freestyle.

Competing in the same age group, teammate Stuart Mathews showed great versatility by winning gold in the 200m backstroke and the 200m butterfly.

The success continued with Tamsin Jaggs, competing in the 55-to-59 age group, claiming silver medals in the 100m, 400m and 800m freestyle, while Elena de la Camara bagged a bronze in the 400m freestyle in the 45-to-49 age category.
