Massive error by cabinet

• THE decision to go ahead and demolish our garages on Spencer/Churchill estate to build more homes was based upon viewing the layout to the estate from above on Google Maps. Camden’s cabinet members have made a massive error.
Cllr Meric Apak states: “If my memory serves me right, there is a large green space and a play area to the south east of the estate, looking on to Churchill Road, and garages to the north west, looking on to Spencer Rise. Garages are on two levels and accessed primarily from Spencer Rise, but also from Churchill Road for the ones on the lower level.”
This is incorrect. We have one parking zone, we have one access zone via Spencer Rise. There is no lower level for parking.
Had they chosen to actually visit the estate, as we requested, the presence of the yellow FB14 padlock on the gate at Churchill Road would have been an indicator that this is, in fact, an access gate for workers to empty our bins and fire brigade in case of emergency. This is not and has never been a functioning area of the estate.
Memo to Cllr Apak. When deciding on where to place these carbuncle new-builds do not simply rely on memory. Plan a visit to the site with the cabinet member for investing in communities, culture and an inclusive economy, Cllr Danny Beales, Camden’s planning chief, and engage with those who know best, the residents.
Although your “memory” serves to make our estate sound rather vast and grand, there is no substitute for doing your homework and understanding the facts.
