DEFENDING champion Rupe Ward made it clear he isn’t going to surrender his title easily on Monday when players took to the tables for the opening rounds of the Chalk Farm Pool League Knockout Cup.

The King’s Cross Hurricanes potter (pictured) beat Slattery’s Chris Miles 2-1 and The Green Man’s Steve McLean 2-0 as he successfully negotiated his way through the opening two rounds.

Ward will have to be at his very best in the third round when he takes on Sir Robert Peel’s Neil Faux, who won the prestigious competition in 2012.

Overall 64 players from the Chalk Farm Pool League went head-to-head at various venues in and around Camden and Islington for the chance to get their hands on the best-of-three-frames title.

Sir Robert Peel will be well represented when the Knockout Cup resumes in February with Chris Heim, John Beany and Tony Stephens all joining Faux in the last 16.

Another mouth-watering tie will see Hurricanes’ captain Alp Sezer take on POW Dynamos skipper James Law.
