A VIRAL cake-baker from Kentish Town has whipped up his next uncanny celebrity creation, this time gifting it to reality TV star and podcaster Jamie Laing, writes Frankie Lister-Fell.
Keith Scovell met the former Made in Chelsea member in a Hertfordshire town at the end of the first day of his epic ultra-marathon journey.
Mr Laing ran from London to Salford – around 200 miles – across five days to raise over £2million for Comic Relief.
Mr Scovell, who shot to fame after his Claudia Winkleman cake went viral, was invited to make a cake in his iconic jarring style for Mr Laing.
He told the New Journal: “I’d seen him on telly and admired his work. I’m deaf and he talks about things like tinnitus and stuff like that as he’s got it, so I was intrigued to know more about him. They wanted things to boost him. There are parts where there are nobody cheering him on – it must be incredibly tough to do five days of that.
“I’ve never done a marathon but I imagine when you reach the final stages, you need that boost, just a little added thing to spur him on. The cake was a boost or a horror story, I’m not entirely sure.”
Over four hours Mr Scovell crafted a Victoria sponge with red icing depicting Mr Laing, using Tic Tacs for teeth and a huge red nose.

Mr Laing’s own sweets, which he makes for his business Candy Kittens, decorated the perimeter of the cake stand.
On the train down to Harpenden, Mr Scovell said he had to do “a bit of replacement” after the teeth and nose dislodged during the bumpy ride.
He said: “The co-host Matt Edmonson asked me if I made the icing out of ham because it’s quite pink. I just thought, actually after he ran the marathon, he might be a bit tired and exhausted and red in the face. That would be my running face, that would be mine when I last ran, which was running for the bus in 1986.”
Mr Laing was “over the moon” after he was presented with the cake. He said to Mr Scovell: “That is the nicest thing ever, are you kidding me? This is a brilliant cake but also would do very well in a horror movie – in a good way.”
