Make our roads safer

• THOSE who oppose the scheme (Man behind legal challenge ‘delighted’ as Haverstock Hill cycle lanes are cancelled, January 22) suggest it would affect ambulances and shops would suffer.

First, with fewer vehicles on the road, ambulances should have improved access to the area. Regarding shops, more people walking in the area would encourage more passing trade.

In the context of Camden’s safer streets policy, people such as the elderly and visually impaired and other people with disabilities would be a lot less vulnerable with less car traffic.

Camden needs to protect cyclists, especially given the history of cyclists being killed by motorists in the borough. The council must ensure that streets are safer for walking and cycling for all its residents. We need to end the pause and move on.
