• I SEE in your pages that deputy mayor Cllr Lorna Russell has defected to the Greens.

She is not alone. I first voted in 1977, I voted Labour, and have done so at every election since. Over the years I’ve held my nose as I voted for a party moving more and more to the right.

No more. I could never vote for a neo-Liberal Conservative party nor can I vote “Conservative-light” led by Sir Keir Starmer or any of the people “he has allowed to stay in his party”.

The coup by the Labour right means my vote will be going to the Greens at future elections. Strip out a lot of the environmental crap and there’s a lot of common sense and progressive policies just waiting for a bit of exposure.
