• I WAS surprised to read Richard Ferraro’s letter, where he dubiously claims to have “…no political agenda”, (Direct Labour is not the magic answer, August 16).

In light of Carillion, the Chalcots and Grenfell, surely it’s sensible to have a discussion around insourcing? These examples have shown how partnering with the private sector isn’t necessarily effective.

Cllr Meric Apak is proposing to review, over four years, a handful of public services the council provides but contracts out to the private sector. One of these services is estate cleaning, which was a Camden Labour 2018 manifesto pledge to bring in-house.

Reviewing the outsourcing of estate cleaning services is hardly the start of the proletarian revolution, but it is a small step for pragmatic thinking prevailing over failed neo-liberal economics.
