THE dates for a new football challenge have been set as players from across Camden and Islington prepare to put their skills to the ultimate test.
The London Two-Touch Championships will see youth teams competing in a series of regional heats across the capital before taking part in a grand final to find “the champions of champions”.
Organised by coaches Michael Lyle and Charlie Browne from the Highgate Newtown Community Centre, the pilot programme proved a big hit with youngsters during a four-week trial at the Winchester Project in Swiss Cottage.
Using home advantage to maximum effect, Winchester FC won the under-19s title, while Kentish Town Community Centre FC were crowned under-13s champions. Organiser Michael is confident that their competition offers a fresh challenge.
“Obviously two-touch itself isn’t something new, but we’ve created a league to take two-touch skills beyond just a standard training drill,” he said. “It’s a brand new game and will can change the way young people think about football.”
The Two-Touch Championships kicks off in east London on June 11, before moving to south London on June 18, north London on June 25 and west London on July 2.
The grand finals will then be held at the Seymour Leisure Centre in central London on Saturday, July 16.
