Highgate Harriers women’s team

ATHLETES representing the Highgate Harriers were celebrating on Saturday after being crowned the kings and queens of the capital. 

Some of the most talented runners from across Camden and Islington were out in force as they helped the club top the podium at the London Cross-Country Championships, which were held at Parliament Hill Fields. 


Runner Annelise O’Connell

Hannah Viner led the Harriers to victory in the senior women’s race as she completed the 6k course in 24 minutes, 47 seconds to take third place overall. 

With the top four home from each club scoring valuable points, Harriot Brock, Ashley Scott and Emma Burgess also all ran well to finish in the top 16 out of a field of 187 finishers.

In the men’s race, which was run over 10k, Ryan McKinlay was the first over the finish line wearing the black and white hoops of Highgate as he clocked a time of 34:44 to finish 10th.


Highgate Harriers men who were crowned champions of the capital

Club-mate Jon Laybourn finished three seconds and two places further back, while Fergal Smithwick and Dom Smith were 13th and 26th respectively out of 327 finishers. 


U-13s Camden girls’ team

A number of Highgate Harriers top juniors were also in action as they represented their respective boroughs in the London Youth Games Cross-Country Championships. 

Team Camden enjoyed another strong showing, with 61 runners racing their lungs out in the Under-11s, Under-13s, Under-15s and Under-17s age groups.

Managed by Camden Sport and Physical Activity Service, the boys’ team finished 14th overall, while the girls were 16th.
