Litter fines could be used to help clean up the environment

• MAYBE it’s the hot weather that has gone to my head, but I am seeing huge Wendy’s burger advertising hoardings dangling before my eyes everywhere I go, while at my feet I just see lots of cast-off human trash, mostly from fast-food take-aways.

Saddest of all was the sight on Tuesday, when I was cycling along Camley Street past a set of beautiful, flower-filled, kerbside planters on the approach to the Camley Street Nature Reserve. They were full of trash, competing for space with the flowering plants.

It made me think about Camden’s zero carbon targets and what responsibility fast-food sellers might have for what some customers might choose to do with food and drink containers?

One might hope most humans care for the environment, but it looks like many do not. I felt sick and I shall definitely not be buying a Wendy’s burger for lunch.

Maybe some more local rules? And fines, lots of fines? Perhaps money from fines could be used to help clean up the environment.
