Call on the BBC to broadcast church services
• THE central problem of your front page story (Legal challenge over the right to hold church services, November 26), cannot be solved but can be helped by a very simple remedy; call on the BBC to broadcast services, in high quality, using their wasted time.
If you examine the programming for their Freeview Channel 601, RB1, the red button, you will notice stunning wastage at a level that is unimaginable.
They will take a 60-minute programme, often a well known musician, and repeat it over and over again, often as many as two dozen times over a week. These showings may be interspersed with other similarly handled offerings.
In short the channel is ridiculous. This Sunday morning’s schedule consists of just under 10 hours of continuous American football.
Starting with the two most populous religions, the BBC could easily clear off its Sunday morning programming and offer an hour to each on a regular basis.
This would enable followers to worship in proper quality (unlike YouTube) and at the same time providing a group effect. Other religions should follow when any snags have been sorted.
Everybody should email the new boss of the BBC, Tim Davie, at tim.davie@bbc.co.uk and ask him what the obstacles might be so that we can all knock them down.
