Let’s not forget the civilian sacrifice and courage in WWII
Friday, 22nd November 2019
• REMEMBRANCE Sunday is a very moving day for people of my generation.
It is wonderful to acknowledge the courage and sacrifice that the fighting men and women receive. It struck me that the courage and sacrifices of the civilian population have never been recognised.
I still remember vividly the anguish of the mothers who had left their children in Woolworths when a V-2 rocket fell on it a New Cross on November 25 1944 killing – as we heard much later – 168 people.
It is still not too late to publicise this and the hits by the V-1 flying bombs, I think.
