Let’s look forward to an autumn general election
Thursday, 15th June 2017
• “LADIES and gentlemen, I give you, at enormous expense, for five years only, the new Conservative government.” That was how I started my letter to you after the 2015 election (The new Conservative government – only four years and 50 weeks to go! May 28, 2015), and I was resigned to another Tory landslide.
I was not to know that nearly 3,000 new registrations in the Hampstead & Kilburn constituency and 1.76million registrations nationwide would have such an amazing effect on the election. Well done to all the workers who beavered away. But surely, the Tories did their job for them.
So how much has been cut off social budgets since the election? Wasn’t it about £16billion? Just think what an easier ride the Tories might have had if they had directed their fire not on the health service, schools, and the police etc but in a serious attempt to recover some of the £120+billion which remains unpaid in corporation tax.
The problem for them there is that many of these firms actually help to bankroll the Tory party and many Tories have connections with these companies.
All these companies have the benefits of living and trading in Great Britain so why not send them separate bills for all the services they use in this country? If a managing director has a road traffic accident which involves all the major services why not send a bill?
Let’s hope that the Tories have a very “hot” summer, relieved only by the cooling blasts of an autumn election in which we will be able to say, loud and clear, that we don’t believe a word they say!
