• EMMA Goldman wrote a lovely piece on not littering (Talking rubbish, October 13) but I hope she doesn’t dig up “weeds” outside my house or come into my garden to do it.

“Weeds” are varied wild flowers and grasses, increasingly threatened, which provide important food for the native creatures on which our ecosystem depends.
