A ‘ghost’ house in Mornington Terrace
• MERIK Apak, cabinet member for better homes, states Camden “does not have 500 homes lying empty due to major repair bills or legal disputes”, (The council is taking action on empty homes, February 10).
He doesn’t state the number, only that they are a tiny proportion of 23,000 homes. So how many are there?
We are told that these uncounted ghost houses are being prepared “immediately”, “actively”, “as soon as possible” using a “void improvement programme” which has seen significant improvements over the last 12 months. What are these significant improvements?
How many homes have been created? Again we are not given the number of empty properties that are being prepared for immediate rental, only that the number is reduced by 17 per cent.
Cllr Apak states the council has reduced almost by half the average number of days “a home remains empty”. And again he doesn’t give the figure for how many days.
At least three families could have made the Mornington Terrace ghost house (pictured above) their homes. Instead it has remained uninhabitable, save for the rats, for the 10 years I have lived nearby.
