Malden road shooting police search September 2019 E-A144-FB52B0264C27

Officers carry out a search for evidence at the junction of Malden Road and Prince of Wales Road

• IT is worth stating clearly the scale, frequency, and severity of the violence that is now occurring on our streets.

A man was gunned down this week at the junction of Malden Road and Prince of Wales Road, (‘We are very sad’: Portuguese family of gun murder victim Wilson Varela left devastated, September 12).

It happened within metres of the murder of Sadiq Mohamed on February 20 2018 on Malden Road, where he was hacked to death with a sword. And recall that this was another night of double murder, with Abdikiran Hassan being stabbed in Bartholomew Road.

Simultaneously to the shooting a woman was stabbed to death in Chalk Farm, and several others injured with a knife, (Tributes to mother killed in Chalk Farm stabbing, September 9).

In April 2019 Calvin Bungisa was stabbed to death in Gospel Oak. A man was stabbed at Talacre Park in December 2018, who fortunately survived after the air ambulance landed in the park.

A table of violence could be published every week, recording the location, severity and if any convictions have occurred. This should go back five years so we can see if it is worsening or abating. This way we can all police and politicians to account.
