‘Covid-19 has prevented or seriously slowed down research into more affordable e-cars’

• RESIDENTS have recently been sent a reminder concerning the ULEZ, Ultra Low Emission Zone, expansion in October 2021.

While the majority approve of policies designed to reduce the level of pollution, Covid-19 has prevented or seriously slowed down the development of an appropriate infrastructure for e-cars as well as research into more affordable e-cars with batteries guaranteeing mileage exceeding 300 miles.

Drivers going on long journeys on the motorway may have to take courses in anxiety-management techniques to prepare for getting stuck in traffic jams or not finding e-charging stations.

Much of the countryside, like the south west, has no infrastructure for charging e-cars to speak of, nor are charging stations on motorways sufficiently equipped.

Let us not forget that during the pandemic, the car has saved lives because it enabled the most effective social distancing. Under the circumstances, we suggest the expansion of the ULEZ zone be postponed for another year.
