Egyptian Geese

A welcome Egyptian visitor on the ‘island’

• PLEASE leave the new “island” in the boating pond on Hampstead Heath as an island for birdlife.

There are precious few places of safety for birds on the Heath. Last summer it was wonderful to see the family of Egyptian Geese and others making homes there.

I fear that if it is opened up it will be overrun by picnickers who will think nothing of throwing their rubbish into the water.

As a local I am appalled at the rubbish left on the Heath. The rangers do a marvellous job clearing up after thoughtless people. But rubbish thrown into the ponds can poison and harm the wildlife.
