Labour is still a Brexit party

• LABOUR still can’t be trusted to oppose Brexit.

On Saturday, a large group of Liberal Democrats proudly marched in support of a people’s vote at the March for Change, something we have been doing consistently for the past three years.

Despite the Labour Party trying to spin two weeks ago that they now support a referendum and remaining in the EU, their weak presence at the march proved Labour is still a Brexit party.

The leader of the Labour Party was not there. Nor, it seems, were any Camden Labour councillors.

At full council two weeks ago Camden Labour rushed through a motion, with no debate, in the final minutes of the meeting, which called on the council to “wholeheartedly back and campaign for the UK to remain in the EU, and to fight against a disastrous no-deal Brexit at every opportunity”.

Not only was this move highly undemocratic but the party proposing the motion then failed to do what they had themselves called for.

It is also worth highlighting that Labour’s official policy is still only to oppose a Tory or no-deal Brexit, not to campaign to remain under any circumstances.
