Labour heads towards ‘show-trial territory’

• RICHARD Kuper spells out the “unjust shambles” of the Labour Party’s disciplinary process, (The Labour Party’s disciplinary processes are a shambles, June 2).

We know it well: part Kafka, part Joe McCarthy, and being invited to accuse yourself of anti-Semitism for criticising Israel is surely and steadily moving into the show-trial territory we knew as Stalinism.

While Sir Keir Starmer is leading Labour to “support Zionism without qualification” in UK political life, at least the shadow minister for the Middle East, Bambos Charalambous MP, is reporting what he actually saw: “Palestinian children undergoing draconian treatment in military courts; demolitions of homes and communities in East Jerusalem; demolition orders on basic infrastructure in the West Bank, including a health clinic partly funded by UK aid; the segregation of road use in Hebron between Palestinians and Jews…”
