Labour and the Tories are in disarray on Brexit
Thursday, 1st March 2018
• IN response to one of my Labour opponents (People want Labour in Camden to take the Brexit issue seriously, February 22), once you strip away the political rhetoric the message is clear: Camden Labour supports Brexit.
Although he claims that Labour locally are campaigning to retain access to the single market and the customs union, Jeremy Corbyn and John McDonnell have made it clear time and time again that the UK will not remain in either of these institutions.
Labour (and the Tories) are in such disarray over Brexit that residents in Hampstead will rightly ask themselves “which Labour are we voting for?”.
A vote for Labour in Camden will not stand up for the many thousands of EU citizens in our community. On the contrary, every vote for Labour in Camden will be seen by Jeremy Corbyn as a strong endorsement of his policy on pursuing a hard and destructive Brexit.
The only party that will stand up for our friends and neighbours from EU countries is the Liberal Democrats. We are the only party campaigning for an exit from Brexit.
By voting Liberal Democrat in May, as many moderate Labour and Conservative voters have already promised to do, we will send a clear message to the two main parties that we want to put an end to this Brexit shambles.
