Knives down, gloves up!

• WE at LondonScrapz are deeply committed to fostering a safe and positive community through the sport of boxing.
Our mission, encapsulated in the motto “Knives Down, Gloves Up,” aims to combat knife crime by providing young people with a constructive outlet for their energy.
We have been organising structured and safe boxing sessions in Camden, which were initially deemed compliant with local regulations by the council and police.
We are both saddened and surprised by the recent article’s portrayal of our activities as disruptive (Crowds at boxing in the street, June 13), along with the council’s community warning to our organisation, preventing us from continuing our sessions in Camden.
In a borough with over 100 knife crime incidents in the past year, LondonScrapz plays a crucial role in reducing this statistic by offering an alternative to violence. We believe that through boxing, young people can learn discipline, build self-esteem, and find a sense of community.
LondonScrapz also prioritises maintaining a respectful relationship with local residents and the council by packing up when it gets late and keeping the music volume down.
Our activities are not only about boxing but also about building a stronger, safer community. Together, we could have made Camden a safer, more united place.
We thank the Camden community for their ongoing support and we look forward to continuing our mission elsewhere to promote safety and positive engagement through sport.
