WELTERWEIGHT Kian “The Technician” Thomas stretched his record in pro ranks to five wins on the spin on Friday, as he despatched Mario Petrov at Brighton’s Metropole Hotel.

The 24-year-old Camden fighter  (left, acclaiming win) put his Bulgarian opponent under heavy pressure from the opening bell, knocking him down in the first.

Living up to his nickname, Kian showed off his vast technical skills throughout the four-round contest as he recorded a convincing 40-36 points victory.

“Petrov came in a little bit heavier but I fought hard and I was hitting him with some horrible shots, but fair play to him he was tough,” he said after his latest win. “I knocked him down in the first round but he stuck in there and got through it. It was undoubtedly my hardest fight since turning professional because the kid was ambitious and wasn’t a loser. He was a winner, he had a really good amateur background which made him a really strong opponent.

“It was a tough fight but tough fights make you learn and come back stronger.”

Asked about what he expected for the rest of 2016, Kian added: “I expect to win more fights, do my best, train hard, support my team and excite my fans.

“My big target is to get a big promoter, because right now I’m self-promoting but I can’t just go up to one and say take me! I have to keep winning my fights and attract a good one.

“If a title fight comes along I’m going for it – the Southern Area championship is well within my reach. I’m five and zero now. Maybe when my record is eight or nine I’ll be going for a title.”

Kian is back in the ring on February 27 at the York Hall in Bethnal Green.
