Keep a Green Party voice at the Town Hall
Thursday, 30th November 2023
• ANNA Lamche bemoans the “maddeningly slow pace” of climate diplomacy and urges us to go to the “London COP”, (What else are you going to do on a Saturday? CNJ, November 23).
I’m sure it will be great. And yet if we really want to speed up that pace, we should pay close attention to the words of Jean-Claude Juncker, ex-president of the European Commission: “We all know what to do, but we don’t know how to get re-elected once we have done it”.
The only way to make sure politicians can do the Green thing and not fear for their re-election is for voters to vote Green.
Yes, there are many Green-leaning politicians in other parties, even in Camden, but only if the Green vote goes up will they be able to persuade their colleagues to follow them.
They won’t admit it in public, but they actually want the Green vote to rise. When Green votes go up, politicians of all colours start to take action.
The lucky residents of Highgate have a chance to prove that today, Thursday, by voting to keep a Green opposition here in Camden.
The rest of us can tell our friends (and pollsters) what we intend to do, and hope that we get our own chance very soon.
