WHEN it comes to winning medals, the Veras Karate Academy boasts a squad of young fighters hotter than the weather.

In their last outing of the summer the club, which regularly holds classes across Camden and Islington, added two golds, a silver and a bronze medal to their packed trophy cabinet.

Competing in the Central England Championships at the University of Wolverhampton in Walsall, senior member Nicole Hussey scooped silver in the 16 years plus category. Lucienne ‘Lulu’ Brown, 9, continued the success as she bagged a bronze in her competition.

Showing the true spirit of a champion, Liam Veras, 7, recovered from fainting because of the heat to win all seven of his fights in the boys’ seven-years and under category to strike gold.

Older brother Luan, 9, also topped the podium, winning the nine-years and under fight event.

Talented trio Luke Kavanagh, 11, Archie Gemmell, 12 and Luca Veras, 6, enjoyed the outing despite missing out on medals.
