Swiss Cottage tower Essential Living

Essential Living’s once proposed tower block design for 100 Avenue Road

• FULL marks for Edie Raff’s suggestion (Let’s boycott the council’s planning consultations, July 25).

The 100 Avenue Road monstrosity is only the latest slap in the face to voters.

I read weekly about our so-called representatives waving through developments with no regard for local concerns.

Last year Camden ignored 1,000 written objections, local presentations, a damning report from a planning expert, and concerns by the water utility, police, transport users, flood experts, and conservation groups in order to wave through Landsec’s plan to build 21 giant tower blocks on the O2 Centre site.

Worse, Camden officials worked with Landsec to raise the number of units from 950 to 1,800.

The council took money in return for less green space and accepted fewer “affordable” homes than the norm.

So yes. Neighbours, if Camden asks for your opinion on a horrible new development, tell them we too have stopped listening. It will speak far louder than any common sense we try to pass their way.
