ALAN Reid has taken his brand of Scottish folk music and groundbreaking keyboard all over the world in a career spanning almost 50 years.

An original founding member of the internationally renowned Battlefield Band, he has played his music live on five continents. The group, perhaps best known for mixing Celtic bagpipes with other musical instruments, has produced 30 albums.

His friend Larry Kaplan, whose songs are widely known around the world and lives in Hampstead, is helping promote Alan’s impending visit to London.

He told me: “It is rare to have the opportunity to know and work with a folk music legend, so I am thrilled that Alan Reid is making this long-anticipated visit to London in an intimate and lovely venue.

“Here you will find that rare mix of traditional Celtic music Alan has been instrumental in making accessible to so many, as well as his own songs, including those which have arguably found their way to the tradition and new original songs destined to join them.”

A special performance of his original and traditional Scottish folk music is taking place at Burgh House, Hampstead, on April 7.
