A TRENDY juice and coffee bar has been ordered by the council to remove its giant coffee cup sign they failed to secure planning consent, writes Caitlin Maskell.
Cranes were brought in to remove the 3D artwork at the Chalk Farm Road branch of Joe & the Juice. The cup had been up for six months without consent before it was removed on council orders. The cup had been up for six months without consent before it was removed on council orders.
The council said a application for consent had been submitted by the company but a decision has not yet been made. They said they had advised the applicant that it would not be approved as it does not apply with planning policy.

In its planning application the company said: “The proposed signage has been designed in keeping with the surrounding area of Camden and the growing alternative essence that the locality provides.”
Camden Town is known for its many colourful shopfronts and 3D signs that line Camden High Street – but they all need planning consent from the council. A mural by doodle artist Frankie Curtis will remain on the wall with minor changes to remove Joe & The Juice branding.
Joe & The Juice said they are working to find a solution with the council. They said: “We have taken the coffee cup down while we discuss next steps for the mural with Camden Council, and we look forward to working with them to keep showcasing local community artists at our store.”
