The Camden New Journal

WE may have mentioned, once or twice, that the Camden New Journal was named the UK’s best weekly paper at the recent Regional Press Awards.

Our hard work was recognised in the midst of the toughest financial climate ever known for local media. The paper, its sister titles in Islington and Westminster and related services, such as our website and social media, are funded by advertising, donations, sponsorships and events.

We are now looking to hire new members of staff to help with this endeavour.

One of our long-serving sales staff has recently retired, opening up an opportunity for a successful candidate to sell advertising space in print and online.

While other local newspapers may have faded, the New Journal is still very much held in high regard and advertisers are well aware of our reach across north London. This provides a platform and scope for a sales representative to uncover new leads and maintain existing relationships.

This is not a reporting role, but anybody applying should be well aware of the paper’s independent spirit and be enthused by roles which help maintain Camden’s campaigning voice. Knowledge of the paper, what we do and why we do it will be very valuable.

The role is likely to involve lots of time on the telephone, working from lists and meeting clients where necessary. The successful candidate will be strong at quick or lengthy sales pitches to new customers.

You will also be working on securing sponsorships which allow us to produce special editions of the newspaper.

Experience will be beneficial but we value attitude and application first.

Any successful candidate must be full of energy and ready to suggest their own ideas for sales. They may be somebody right at the start of their careers and ready to learn quickly or an experienced rep well-versed in where the opportunities lie.

The hours will be regular office working in Camden Town. We need this member of staff to be working when our advertisers are working.

You will be working directly with the sales manager and editor.

Those interested, should email richard@camdennewjournal.co.uk with a CV and a short covering letter. It can include ideas that you would bring to this role.
Please mark the subject fields in your emails as ‘job application’.

There is no official closing date as we are looking to hire somebody as they are available. However, we respect candidates’ needs to serve notice with any current employers and this will not be considered a negative factor in applications.
