05_Election special CNJ held by Helen Chapman

The Camden New Journal

WE may have mentioned, once or twice, that the Camden New Journal was named the UK’s best weekly paper at the recent Regional Press Awards.

Our hard work was recognised in the midst of the toughest financial climate ever known for local media. The paper, its sister titles in Islington and Westminster and related services, such as our website and social media, are funded by advertising, donations, sponsorships and events.

We are now looking to hire new members of staff to help with this endeavour.

Despite the challenges, this is an exciting period for everyone at the Camden New Journal as we meet the changing media landscape. We are growing online, have 1.5 million views on YouTube and soon a new newsletter. Over the past few years, we have organised conferences – including our successful climate change COP – and book talks.

We want to do more but need someone to help organise these projects and work as a fund-raiser to support our campaigning journalism.

We are looking for someone full of energy and with a bag full of revenue ideas to work directly with the editor and the newsroom.

This is not a reporting role, but anybody applying should be well aware of the paper’s independent spirit and be enthused by roles which help maintain Camden’s campaigning voice. Knowledge of the paper, what we do and why we do it will be very valuable.

The ideal candidate will be well-organised, good ‘on the phone and email’ and able to see opportunities where others can’t. Experience of fund-raising and events, perhaps for a charity or good cause, will be beneficial but we value attitude and application as much as a long CV.  Knowledge of social media will be helpful, but not a be-all and end-all.

The hours will be regular office working in Camden Town, except when there are events organised on evenings or weekends and that need attendance. Requests for flexible working can be discussed but – in the interests of  teamwork– all staff must attend the office for some periods of the week.

Those interested, should email richard@camdennewjournal.co.uk with a CV and a short covering letter. It can include ideas that you would bring to this role.
Please mark the subject fields in your emails as ‘job application’.

There is no official closing date as we are looking to hire somebody as they are available. However, we respect candidates’ needs to serve notice with any current employers and this will not be considered a negative factor in applications.
