I’ve noticed a feel of fear in the air in Camden
Thursday, 29th March 2018
• I HAVE lived in Camden for 12 years and always loved the atmosphere, the vibrancy, seeing the tourists coming to see what’s going on in the markets and bars, the heritage, the diversity.
Of late, in the centre, I have noticed movement towards anarchy and a feeling of fear in the air. This has come from a dramatic increase of moped gangs, drug gangs, gang warfare, violence, little police presence, anti-social behaviour and apathy towards the neighbourhood.
Camden is famous for free spirits, warm people, music, diversity, safety, and atmosphere. This is going, and going fast.
Why do we see the same boys/gangs selling drugs every day for years with zero police involvement? Is it now legal to sell drugs on Camden High Street? Just go to the canal bridge or other places on the high street. Go with your camera.
Today I see news footage about young people being murdered on our streets. We need zero tolerance, stronger laws and policing. The gangs and deaths are related. Stop the drugs trade it will stop the deaths. Or have we given up on drug crimes?
Have you been up Camden High Street? Wondered why a gang is constantly on one corner with nothing done to move them on? It’s so intimidating to even walk past. What do the tourists think?
I have a friend who did work in a bar on the high street. He left because of aggressive behaviour. He was threatened with all sorts, but no police were ever involved.
Can’t we sort this out, with police moving people on for loitering, arresting people for dealing? Do Asbos still exist? If so use them.
If we don’t bring in better law and order there will be more deaths to knife crime and a great town and market area will also die. We don’t need more funerals, more pressure groups, more news stories… we need more action and results.
