Houses of Parliament

• I TOTALLY agree with your editorial Comment last week (Politics is too important to be left to the professionals, March 3).

There are far too many professional politicians at all levels and a need for a wider range socially and with various work and life experiences.

A particularly egregious example was the coalition cabinet of 2010 where the vast majority of the cabinet members were millionaires, which is hardly representative of the UK.

The idea that David Cameron, George Osborne and Nick Clegg understand the lives of millions of ordinary people is beyond laughable.

The cuts made would not affect them in the slightest and they would be completely unable to understand their impact on the vast majority of the population.

Of course they all also attended public schools which separates them from everybody outside the immediate circle they inhabit.

This means they live in a bubble from real life from school, then university to in their case business and or politics.

These people are promoted beyond their limited abilities simply because of their background.

Let’s have a proper mix of people in public life in future and call time on the Bullingdon Club.
