It’s time to get angry with this nasty government

Thursday, 31st October 2019

• FOLLOWING on from the four-page wrap-around advertisement from Camden Council on an earlier issue of the New Journal, our house has just received nine postcards for the flats doing the same: asking European Union nationals to make sure they have applied to remain living here under the government’s EU Settlement Scheme.

And I must ask: who is paying for all of this? And my “this” includes those hundreds of TV ads we have been bombarded with these last weeks, warning us about Brexit on October 31, now dead in a ditch.

That scheme has now been suspended, and cost £100million, which I think confirms the sheer stupidity of Brexit, a move which will isolate our bunch of islands from our nearest neighbours, so we can do more deals with countries half a world away, where we already have good ties, which is why we do 60 per cent of our trade there!

Camden, like most other councils in the country, has been wailing for years about having to cut vital services, because this Tory government has slashed its support by almost half in the name of austerity.

Yet the same stupid government has just poured £100million into the ditch, with a similar campaign starting again as soon as a Brexit date is agreed…

Austerity is what lies behind the massive discontent in this country, and voting for another, even more right-wing Tory government will only make things worse.

But Brexit will complete the job: the utter disintegration of the United Kingdom, all to satisfy the over-inflated ego of Boris Johnson.

Will someone in the Labour Party please get as angry as me with this inept and plain nasty government? We need a change of direction, and not downwards as Brexit and Johnson will deliver.
