Day centre barred_Evans letter

Day centre barred to humans?

• WHAT does it say about our society when humans stop other human beings from carrying out basic needs?

For several years a quiet alcove at the back of St Alban’s church in Brooke Street, Holborn, was used by single men to sleep for the night. They were well-behaved, and tidy.

Such an un-Christian act of erecting a steel wall to keep them firmly out came as a shock to many. Then, more recently, Camden Council carried out a similar uncaring act by building the same kind of structure to keep out a man and woman who have slept in the entrance.

This has been done at the Highgate Day Centre in Highgate Road NW5 which is due to be demolished. How can the council justify the cost of such a structure soon to be taken down? What are the council’s priorities here?

I’m disappointed. Time for a change in attitude to those less fortunate than others.
