It’s not the driver that holds up the bus

• FOLLOWING on from your correspondent ‘Elaine’s’ letter (I got to the hospital in time – no thanks to Sadiq Khan, May 5) highlighting her inability to use her Freedom Pass before 9am, and the many responses in your May 12 Letters, I would just like to mention the bus driver in situations like this.
The driver is employed by the bus company and does not have the power to break the rules. In my opinion whether a driver has any personal feelings about an issue with someone’s pass or not is irrelevant.
Other passengers getting annoyed with a driver does not help. It is not the driver holding up the bus, it is the person without the correct pass or willingness to pay a fare.
If a driver allowed a person to travel without the correct pass, or fare, they probably would be disciplined.
Maybe we should all have some empathy with bus drivers. They have a stressful job driving on London’s roads and dealing with fare evaders day in and day out.
Hooray for the bus drivers.
