• DELIGHTED to read that Tulip Siddiq MP is expecting her second child in the new year, (Hampstead and Kilburn MP Tulip Siddiq expecting second baby, September 13). I wish Tulip and her husband all the best.

I also want to welcome the fact that another Member of Parliament has chosen to have a baby while in office. All too often motherhood and public service are deemed as in conflict with one another, a view that is inherently sexist and archaic in equal measure.

Women must not feel as if they are shut out from participating in public life simply because of their biology, and I want to applaud MPs like Tulip who continue to work hard for their constituents while balancing the demands of motherhood in the process.
