YOU couldn’t have asked for a more aptly named pool player to stand up and be counted for Central London’s senior ‘A’ team on Sunday.

For it was Bob Philpot who dominated the table to help his side pocket a 21-4 victory away at Sussex in the County Blackball Championships.

Nicknamed “The Glove” because of his funky hand-wear, Philpot returned from representing England in the Nations Cup just in time to win all five of his frames for the capital, and keep them on course for a spot in the National Finals in March.

Closer to home, the Peckwater TA (above) made it five wins out of five in division two of the Chalk Farm Pool League on Monday night with a 6-3 win over The Boot.

But, incredibly, it’s the Sir Robert Peel ‘B’ team who top the table despite the fact that they’ve actually lost one of their five games this season.

Peel’s 8-1 win over Cock Tavern Aloysius on Monday means that, even with that loss, they have still won more frames than Peckwater and are therefore a point ahead at the top of the table.

In division one The King’s Cross Hurricanes stay top courtesy of a 7-2 win over Boston Rimmers.
