IT could be a Disney movie – or a comic strip plot from The Beano.
But the disappearance of the Johnson family dog, Harry, and his triumphant return are a real-life canine drama.
Stanley Johnson – father of schoolboyish Spectator editor and Tory MP Boris Johnson – his wife Jenny and children Julia and Max launched a borough-wide hunt for the 14-year-old Jack
Russell after he went missing from the front garden of their Regent’s Park Road home in Primrose Hill last month.
They put up posters far and wide, fearing that they might never see Harry again, but the appeals were to prove successful.
Ms Johnson said: “We picked him up from a woman in Elm Village last week. He
was absolutely fine and had obviously been well looked after. The woman told us she had seen a boy dragging Harry down the street by the collar.”
He added: “When she approached him he told her Harry was not wanted by his family and was for sale. He asked for £50 but she knocked it down to £20. She didn’t realise that Harry was stolen. Perhaps she should have because he had a collar and a chip fitted, but the main thing is that she took good care of him and, when she saw the poster, got in touch with us.”
Mr Johnson, whose bid to become a Tory MP in Devon ended unsuccessfully at the general election last month, added: “It’s great to have Harry back.”
