It would be an honour to be elected
Thursday, 30th November 2023
• IT’S been a huge honour to be the Labour Party candidate for the Highgate by-election taking place today, November 30.
I have lived in the ward for 35 years, raised my family here, and volunteer with local organisations such as the Highgate Society.
I would be humbled to be elected to serve the residents I have so enjoyed speaking with across the ward these last six weeks.
It’s clear the country has been going through difficult times in recent years and people are feeling this everywhere.
Highgate has many wonderful assets, from Waterlow Park and the heath to its schools and library and community centres.
Yet too many people are suffering with the cost of living crisis, lack of affordable housing, and crime and anti-social behaviour on our streets following police cuts.
We desperately need public investment to support families in Camden who are struggling; to defend free school meals locally for children; to build new council homes; and to buy back those lost to the right to buy.
We need to protect our precious green spaces and we must take climate action. As a former teacher and school governor in north London, I believe in public services and in public service.
If elected today, I will fight for our housing, community safety, environment, education, and health services – and more – to be the best they can be for all the people of Highgate.
Even in these difficult times, we can always insist on the best for those who are worst off.
If you have a vote in today’s election, I would be honoured not just to be a candidate but to become your councillor.
