It would be a tragedy if we lost the Leighton Arms

Residents at the second of two street protests opposing the works on the Leighton Arms pub

• IT is a matter of grave concern to me and many of my neighbours that the conversion of the Victorian Leighton Arms pub into a supermarket is going ahead without planning permission and without consultation with residents, (Leighton Arms: Shelves are stocked despite council ordering developer to reverse pub conversion, June 21).

Hundreds of us really object to the project. In the past few years we have lost so many local pubs in the area, most recently the Gloucester Arms in Leighton Road and the Admiral Mann in Hargrave Place. It would be tragic to lose another.

I was very glad to see that Camden Council has served an enforcement notice on the developers ordering them to restore the pub to its original state.

If the shop goes ahead and opens before the enforcement order is in place, my neighbours and I will certainly continue our legal protests and encourage everyone to boycott the shop.
