• GOOD on Rebecca Shirazi for calling out the ex-council leader’s defence of Ian McKenzie’s tweets, (The ex-council leader should stop briefing against Hampstead & Kilburn CLP, June 14).

Ian, now suspended from the party, commented that ‘Emily Thornberry is too old for ISIS. They won’t make a sex slave of her. They’ll behead her and dump her in a mass grave.’

I cannot see how this can be interpreted as anything other than misogynistic and indisputably wholly inappropriate.

It takes a lot of courage to condemn the abhorrent views and behaviour of high profile Labour Party members without fear and we have no doubt that Rebecca’s courage will cost her the usual barrage of coordinated attacks from right wing cliques.
