Israel’s ministry of tourism is supporting an event at the Roundhouse next month

Thursday, 3rd August 2017

• YOUR readers may be interested to know that Israel’s ministry of tourism is supporting a “Tel Aviv in London” celebration which is due to take place at the Roundhouse on September 8 to 11.

This event appears to be part of the Israeli government’s “Brand Israel” campaign aimed at diverting attention from the repressive regime the Israeli government employs against the Palestinians.

Hundreds of Palestinian children are detained every year by Israel in breach of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. The Israeli legal system privileges the country’s Jewish citizens to the detriment of the Palestinians – its original inhabitants.

Settlements in the occupied West Bank continue to grow, and impede the movement and access of the Palestinians whose land has been taken for settlement development.

In recent weeks we have seen tear-gas fired at people at prayer, and teenagers shot and killed at checkpoints.

In Gaza, which is held under an Israeli military blockade, many people only have two hours electric power per day, and lack access to proper drinking water. All of this is happening only a few miles from the Tel Aviv “bubble” as it is known.

But do not be deceived. A bubble is what it is, and it tells us nothing of the discrimination and dispossession across the territories Israel controls.
