EDDIE Brocklesby – known as ‘Iron Gran’ for her devotion to fitness – shared her recollection of meeting the Queen at Windsor Castle at last night’s (Monday’s) full council meeting.
The charity founder said she also met Princess Anne and told her she looked fit.
Here’s what Ms Brocklesby said:
“I’m the founder CEO of the Silverfit charity, and we’re in partnership with Age UK Camden, and hoping to expand what we’re doing in Camden, creating a healthier, more active population.
At the moment, we’re just in Talacre Park, but looking to expand quite quickly.
So April 2 2019 was one of the best days of my life. I went to a reception organised by the National Council of Voluntary Organisations to celebrate their 100th year, and this was at Windsor Castle.
This was a great opportunity to meet the great and the good of National Council for Voluntary Organisations. I went into a relatively small room and at the end of that room, there was a tiny passage leading into a really big room in Windsor Castle with hundreds of people already congregating there and having fun.
I joined a queue of about five or six people going to that passage and only as I got to the end… I had no idea the Queen was going to be there. I was absolutely gobsmacked
You sort of go through and her equerry, I think, sort of introduced her to me and said that I was the co founder of the Silverfit charity promoting healthier ageing.
‘Oh, lovely’, she said, and she was just absolutely charming. So that’s the photograph I’ve got that I have of meeting the Queen.
It was so absolutely fantastic and then we moved into the big room where she was also circulating.
And one of the proudest bits I had there was… Princess Anne circulating too and she met me. I think she knew what I was doing. Someone had introduced her too, and she was just so charming.
And I looked at her and said: ‘You’re quite fit, aren’t you?’
‘Oh, yes,’ she said, ‘I’m walking in Windsor Castle park every day and, you know, a bit of horse riding too’.
So what an absolute privilege it was to meet them and to be part of that and gain, I hope, the further opportunity to promote Silverfit.”
