Brittany Rogers bursting through for Kilburn Cosmos Ladies

WOMEN’S rugby has been a big hit in the headlines this month, especially after the Rugby Football Union revealed they will be paying England’s top female players for the first time. 

The RFU announced that they have given 20 players of England’s Sevens squad professional contracts, including 12 members who led the country to glory in the World Cup earlier this month with a 21-9 victory over Canada – a result being hailed as a watershed moment for the sport. 

One club hoping to take advantage of this new-found popularity are the Kilburn Cosmos Ladies, who are searching for more players ahead of the new season in the National Challenge South East Two League, which starts on September 14. 

Kilburn Cosmos are seeking new recruits

The club are hosting their Brownes Cup competition next Saturday, September 6, at Gladstone Park, which will give wannabe recruits the opportunity to get to grips with their new “family”. 

“We’re a small team and would desperately love to reinforce our numbers before the start of the new season,” said team manager Brittany Rogers. “We’re a friendly bunch who pride ourselves on being one big family. 

“Recruiting new players can be tricky,” added Brittany, who is entering her third season with the Cosmos. “It’s hard to put into words just how much fun being part of the club is. 

“The best thing to do is for anyone interested to come along next Saturday and see for themselves. I’m sure they’ll get hooked like me. 

“I grew up in America and had never even heard of rugby until I came over here. But as soon as I started playing there was no going back.” 

Join the Kilburn Cosmos at the Brownes Cup on Sept 6, at Gladstone Park, entrance near Anson Road, NW2, between 11am and 5pm. 

The club has mens, ladies and junior teams.
