Inhumane was the right word

Homeless people were evicted from their sleeping spot next to a UCLH
• INHUMANE was the right word for the front page headline concerning the ruthless purge of vulnerable people’s tents, precious possessions, and identity documents, (Homeless tents tossed into a rubbish truck, the images that shame Camden, November 16).
Even a dying Tory government couldn’t stomach legislating Suella Braverman’s no-tents policy, her desperate deep-right dog whistle on the way of office.
Only incredulity can describe CNJ’s revelation that a hospital, UCH, commissioned it, Camden, an elected Labour council, authorised it and contracted Veolia to execute this vile act, in our name, financed by our taxes.
That said, all credit to its leadership for still turning up CNJ’s homelessness summit with a measure of willingness and humility to be held to account by bold, independent, journalism.
Some small glints of hope emerged in that dialogue, deeper understanding of the current homelessness crisis as just one symptom of much broader and historic systemic failings in voluntary and state health care and protection services in our country.
It’s a start…
