In solidarity and in memory of Barry Sullivan

Barry Sullivan
• WE will come together, albeit at a social distance, at the memorial bench for Barry Sullivan, on the twelfth anniversary of his passing, on Sunday August 30 at 3pm.
There is ample room for friends of Barry, and those who used the services of the long-gone Camden Town Neighbourhood Advice Centre where he was manager, to meet in a safe manner in St Martin’s Gardens.
Two other Camden activists, former councillor Gloria Lazenby and housing activist Ellen Luby have memorial benches nearby in the gardens.
Although we will meet at a physical distance from each other we recognise the need not to isolate ourselves from those in need.
The most vulnerable in society are feeling the brunt of Covid-19, more than those who have been “staying at home” in adequate space, with enough bedrooms for their children and a garden to enjoy.
The coming months will see extreme hardship and those who can need to fight for the rights of those facing redundancies, health inequalities and, no doubt, a spate of evictions once the “no-eviction” period ends on August 23.
It is a shame it was considered more important to allocate money for the eat-out-to-help-out scheme than help the increasing numbers on the problematic Universal Credit who are likely to be in fuel and food poverty.
Hope to see some of you there – at a physical distance of 2m but in social solidarity.
